Needle felting is the process of taking washed and carded wool from a sheep, a special barbed needle and stabbing the wool with this needle. The more you stab, the more the fibres of the wool knit together to form, eventually, a firm 3D structure.
Basically I think of it as sculpting but with wool and this gives me the freedom to create an array of shapes and textures which I choose to form into animals. It has a repetitive, relaxing rhythm to it and can, at times, create a meditative state.
I don’t consider myself to be very artistic but needle felting has given me creativeness and the freedom to become so.
